  20. Yawn.  It also conforms to SVGA shortcomings.  It is designed for the
  21. PC, where no one cares that it's slower than Amiga hardware at
  22. screenmode changes, or that it has no copper, or that the palette in
  23. 8-bit mode is only 256k colors, poor video support, etc.

  25. Some think only the OS makes the Amiga, others think only the custom
  26. chips make the Amiga.  Both are wrong, IMHO.  It is the *concept*,
  27. ie. the tight integration between cool OS and cool hardware that
  28. makes the Amiga.  SVGA isn't "cool", it's just plain boring.  The
  29. main advantages it has over AGA graphics is price, bandwidth and the
  30. chunky byteplane modes.  Going for this only to loose all the cool
  31. (and promised) Amiga hardware features would be like solving the
  32. AmigaOS problems by going WinNT.

  34. Luckily, it seems that VIScorp acknowledges the power of the Amiga
  35. concept, as any REAL Amiga owners do.. :)  If they think AGA is the
  36. "best available" for set top boxes, then what would something like
  37. AAA (or better) be?  AAA was the TRUE successor to ECS, it was going
  38. to be MUCH better than AGA...  With a non-compromising standard
  39. chipset (including a flexible DSP implementation a la A3000+) and an
  40. OS to manage it properly, the high end PowerAmiga could become a
  41. cost-effective state of the art multimedia workstation!  Watch out
  42. SGI!!  <Jumping up and down in wild optimism over the VIScorp deal!!>
